Why Atheism?

As President of NEB Publishing, I am very busy writing, editing, and publishing books, such as The World's Seven Biggest Liars. But, in fact, I'm retired from the corporate world and have more time to read than ever before. I am averaging a book a week and I report on most of my reading each week on my other blog: Life in Jefferson.

Over many years I have collected thousands of books, which I keep in my personal library. I have read most of them but I do have a large "waiting" list to read. By the way, if you want to read any of the books I report on, let me know. 

My current writing project is reaching the final edit stage. When I have a firm publishing date I will report that, but right now, it's hard to say when I'll finish.

The Country Bookseller Celebrates 25 Years

Shelf Awareness Comments on The Country Bookseller

I enjoy the updates that Shelf Awareness provides on the independent bookseller all across the country. Today's issue commented on the 25th Birthday Celebration of one of my favorite bookstores: The Country Bookseller in Wolfeboro, NH. We spend a week at nearby Laconia each summer and I'm always happy to stop into The Country Bookseller.

Congratulations to the Country Bookseller, Wolfeboro, N.H., which celebrated its 25th anniversary yesterday. A message posted on the store's website said, "We know without a doubt, we couldn't have done it without you! From midnight Harry Potter releases to moving a whole store across town, you've been with us every step of the way. To our sales reps, our staff, our fellow businesses, and the community that has welcomed us with open arms THANK YOU!"

In addition, the Country Bookseller shared a staff favorites list, noting: "As hard as it was, we've compiled a list of our top 25 titles over the last 25 years. Stop by the store to chat with us about your favorites or find out more about ours! (Okay, there may be a few more than 25...)."

If you are near Wolfeboro this summer, be sure to stop in and congratulate The Country Bookseller for defying the odds and keeping the independent bookstore alive and well.

Use Amazon Author Page to Find My Books

With the recent publication of my Memoir, Worcester's Winter Hill Farm, I am pleased to now have an Author's Page on Amazon.com featuring three of my books. When I refer someone to Amazon, I use a link to this page so readers can find the one book we may have been discussing, but they can also find my other books. Up to now, I had to send multiple links if I wanted to show them other titles.

For the record, I support independent bookstores, especially used bookstores as much as possible. I'm not against online book buying. But we must have balance.

I have a lot of updates to bring to this blog about new bookstores I visited recently and the books I'm writing now, but the writing has been keeping me very busy. So, I will work on my updates as soon as possible. In the meantime, please feel free to visit my Author's Page and let me know what you think.

Books Are Important To Me at NEB Publishing

Jefferson, MA - Books are important to me. I read a lot of books, mostly non-fiction, as entertainment in some cases, and for the education or information, they bring me in other cases. I also write books, magazine articles, blogs, and other publications because I have strong views on some things that I want to share.

I also have a fascination with bookstores, and in particular, for used book outlets. I really can't afford to spend current New York Times bestseller prices on a weekly basis. But, I can spend from $2 to $5 at my local library or one of my favorite nearby bookstores to satisfy my craving for something to read.

I have not really adopted the eBook method of reading. I seem to need the book in my hand, even though I have little trouble with newspapers online, blogs, Facebook, etc. I can handle the electronic stuff - short of reading a book. Not sure why that is; but, there it is.

I write two blogs. The original is The Books of Richard F. Wright, (which you are reading right now) and which is updated on a leisurely basis over time. The other blog, Life in Jefferson, is a bit more disciplined, as it tries to appear each week, chronicling, as it were, how I'm spending my time now that I'm retired formally from the corporate world. Both of these blogs test my determination to write continuously. 

My other writing effort has been devoted to producing the three books that have been published under my independent publishing mark, NEB Publishing (New England Bookstore Publishing). These three books are available variously on the Barnes and Noble website and Amazon.com website. It's been exciting to have these books out in the public eye where people I don't know can take time to make a comment or make an inquiry. It's been a lot of fun. Now that I'm retired, I have more time to work on more projects, which is what I'm doing now.

My next book has been in development for about a year. It's an investigative piece, with a strong political attack angle to it. I'm independently investigating what I view has been a miscarriage of justice, or if not that, miscarriage of fairness. I won't reveal any more here as I still have more interviews to conduct and the less known about specifics, the better it will be for me to get the job done.

Finally, on the Life in Jefferson blog, I routinely list the book or two I read that week and provide a small synopsis of the subject. If you want to read any of the books I mention, let me know. I own all of them. I own every book I ever read. My wife is expressing some concern about that, but that's a story for another day.

Newest Book by Richard F Wright

Jefferson, MA - As of today, my newest book, Worcester's Winter Hill Farm, is now available as an eBook and a Paperback on Amazon.com. Links on the right side of this blog take you to where you can place an order.

The book is a recollection of my growing up on an urban farm in Worcester, Mass., between the ages of eight and 13 years old. Although we were in the city, we were actually living a very rural existence including boarding horses, raising sheep and chickens, and growing food and fields of hay to feed the livestock.

My brother Steve and I spent our formative years on the farm and its effects on us were direct in some cases and indirect in others. My view today is that in the years that followed the "farm" years, we did not have as idyllic a childhood as we might have wished. But the farm years were exciting, wondrous and worth remembering.

Memoir About Winter Hill Farm is Published

The long-awaited memoir is published and available now on Amazon.com.

Worcester's Winter Hill Farm is a visit to my life as a young urban farmer. We had crops, farm animals, pleasure horses, and acres of mystery just past the stone wall. My brother and sisters experienced the farm life too, but I'm sure they got something different out of it than I did. 

Throughout my life, when I reflected on why things happened or why I felt the way I do about something, I have found that it often reflects on what life was like for me as a boy on the farm. It was a strange farm, as it was only minutes from the downtown of the second largest city in New England: Worcester, Mass. We had acres of land and forests that we never found the far edge of in all the years we lived there.

Exploration and Discovery

As small boys, my brother and I explored but never found the full limit of the area. And then, within minutes we would be downtown like my friends, walking from shop to shop with our Mother, buying back-to-school clothes in sprawling department stores such as Denholm and McKay or Jordan Marsh and Company. Our visits to New Hampshire and Cape Cod, plus treks to family in Brooklyn, made the unique features of our home on the farm all the more intriguing for us.

If you have sharp eyes, you can make out a portion of the sign over Steve's shoulder. (Click on the photo to enlarge it). The painted sign hung over the barn door. You can clearly see "Hill," which is part of the whole sign: Winter Hill Farm. On the left edge of the photo, over my right shoulder is the back porch to the farmhouse. This was the main entrance as the staircase to the second floor went directly up from the back hall.

Not My First Book
After you enjoy reading Worcester's Winter Hill Farm you can read another one of my books. One of the books is about all of the rural independent bookstores in New England you can visit that are near typical vacation locations - and are among my favorites. It's called A Vacationer's Guide to Rural New England Bookstores. I have been to all of them and made purchases at all of them. The other book is my assessment about why humankind is as messed up as it appears. I boil it down to the misrepresentation by religious prophets over the centuries about how and why the world exists and operates. Going to a priest, minister, or guru is surely the worst path to enlightenment. How did this situation emerge; you may be shocked to learn it's your fault for listening to The World's Seven Biggest Liars.

History of Religious Prophets on Barnes and Noble website

If you want an honest assessment of how the modern world came to be corrupt and confusing for humans, the one best source, is my book about the world's seven major religious prophets and how they all used the same 9 techniques to corrupt and confuse the world.

Read The World's Seven Biggest Liars and you will understand why one billion people on earth realize that all religions (not some, but all) make things worse for humans as they encourage the worship of deities, which do not exist.

Based on my documented two years of research into the study of the religious prophets I have composed a theory that describes how these seven (and thousands more) religious prophets have generally used the same nine (9) techniques to make a claim that they are in communion with the deity and that they are transmitting the deities' desires on how to live and behave. My review of the literature (see the 222 reference footnotes) helped me analyze what has happened to humankind.

The research clearly shows that the prophets are all fakes and frauds. The major prophets, such as Jesus, Muhammad, Moses, and others are probably all nonexistent persons anyway, but in any event, their followers have been misled to the tune of six billion humans fantasizing about an afterlife and other lies.

Read the book to learn the 9 techniques used by the prophets and see how the thousands of minor prophets stayed "minor" because they didn't use the full 9 of the techniques. Using 6 or 7 techniques gets you into the newspaper, but it doesn't get you half a billion, or one billion, or two billion followers, which is what the major liars did.
